Useful Beyond the Classroom

This was assigned reading for one of my college classes. I rented the book, but ended up purchasing a copy. I really like how the book is laid out. The information is practical and useful in every day situations. The case studies are interesting. I will use this book beyond the classroom.

Interesting and Easy Read

The book arrived quickly and in brand new, perfect condition. So far, I have read the first two chapters of this book for a class I am taking. The book is interesting, easy to follow, and full of helpful information. The real case studies included at the end of each chapter are great to read, though the author leaves the ending open for the student to propose solutions. The book's appendix has several helpful resources such as steps to analyze case studies/business problems and sample business letters, memos, and other written communications.

It's a good book but seems a bit dated

This was my textbook for a MBA class at LSU. It's a good book but, even though published in 2013, talks about the internet as if it was a new thing. Overall though, it offers sound, business communication principles.

After a long, drawn-out extradition process, Shrien was brought back for trial in South Africa, piling more agony on the victim’s distraught family.

Anni: A Father’s Story is an incredibly moving account of his daughter’s life from her happy childhood through to the lavish wedding to Shrien that was meant to signal a new life for the 28-year-old Swedish-born beauty, and the dramatic conclusion of her husband’s trial in 2014.
Dad Vinod Hindocha recounts how his family struggled to cope with the devastating loss of Anni, how they saw their hopes for her future shattered in the blink of an eye at the hands of hitmen – for reasons which still largely remain a mystery – and their battle to see justice done. He also tells of their attempts to reconcile themselves with the court’s verdict and of a future without their beautiful daughter whose life was so cruelly and inexplicably extinguished.

About the Author
Shekhar Bhatia is a London based journalist. He has been a staff reporter on several British newspapers including the Sunday Mirror, Evening Standard, The Observer and Daily Express during a 30 year career. He got involved in reporting on the murder of Anni Dewani soon after her shooting and six months later was a producer of Channel Four's Dispatches TV documentary "Murder on Honeymoon" which was filmed in Bristol, London, Sweden and South Africa. Since then, Bhatia has made four more documentaries for the BBC, NBC and Channel Five in South Africa on the shooting of Reeva Steenkamp by Oscar Pistorius and conducted the first TV interview with Reeva's parents.

It is shocking how a human being speical the male ones treat females. How can somebody treat his wife like that. The person has got a mother and sister and sister-inlaw who are females in the family. If he did not want to get married to the women. Then nobody forced him to get married. I have read just about 1/3. But it is so heartbreaking for her family to loose a duaghter at a young age like this.

Hard to read, harder to put down

As a South African, this book was very hard to read. It brought home the truth of what MANY of us already know; the SA judicial system here is failing us.
The pain of losing a loved one and the failure to achieve closure flows like a golden thread through every single page of this book.
Many South Africans were shocked and appalled by judge Travesty...uhm...sorry... Travesto' s verdict in this case. If, indeed you look at the YouTube clip of her, delivering her verdict, with the eyes of the world on her, she seems to be fumbling and bumbling through it. At one point she even takes off her glasses as if she too cannot bear to see the Hindocha' s pain or the disgust of the rest of the world.
I wish that every judge in SA (including Masipa) could be made to sit down and read this book.
It is a fact that in SA law, the victims seem to be forgotten and marginalized while the system bends over backwards to
accommodate the guilty. It is an ongoing concern for all of us.
One can only hope that God and/or Karma would deliver as law fails us on a daily basis. This book is a clear example of such failure.
This book is not for the fainthearted. It deals with raw, harsh emotions and truths. I had to remind myself to breathe sometimes but I found myself unable to put it down or stop reading.
I wish that everybody in SA, especially those on the judicial system, could read this book.
I give it five stars and highly recommend reading it. It will open your eyes.

Annie, daughter of the world,your father did you proud!

I followed this story from the time it happened and through the trial. If ever there was a miscarry of justice it is this case. This story is heartbreaking yet beautiful as well. Beautiful in regards to everything Anni represents but even more beautiful is the enduring love of her family. It is apparent all throughout Anni's story that she is a bright and shining star in the lives of all she met. That is except for the sociopath she married. Whose life time of self serving arrogant lies were so believable he convinced many he was the "boy next door"! Thanks to the courage of a paid gay escort who risked threats and his reputation and loss of business but refused to be bullied by the manipulation of Shrein the world discovered how deep the lies went. I can not recommend this book enough because of the courage and love you will find despite the horrible crime committed. I would also like to express my deep respect to the entire Hindocha family. Also, Vinod you did not fail your daughter. Shrein, his family, the Brittish law system and the bumbling judge in South Africa as well as other's who represented justice failed Anni. You should hold your head high as well as every one of your family regarding how you represented Anni. You are someone I deeply admire after following the story from start to finish. I pray peace finds you soon and joy returns to your lives again. I do not believe Shrein or his family will ever have either. Yes I am being harsh but the truth is the truth. The Dewani family's conduct sicken me. This book is sad and her death is senseless but the testament too Anni makes it worth reading. I can't say enough about the integrity of the family to include the extended family. May God grant you joy until you meet Anni again in heaven. God will be the ultimate Judge in the end. There will be no escape. No evading punishment. No faking an illness. And no there is not enough money to buy freedom for the guilty. For not only the murder of Anni. But for the failure to see justice served and for the pain inflicted upon her innocent family.

One of the only textbooks I've actually enjoyed reading for class. Wish I would have bought it. It it very insightful, especially if you are considering future job options and how to get started within the field.

" Abba: The Life and Passing of Joseph of Nazareth is a novel about the life of the foster father of Jesus Christ. At eighteen Joseph finds himself in Egypt with a wife and one year old son. After a brief flashback to the birth of Jesus, the novel continues with the life of the Holy Family with emphasis on the relationship between Joseph and Jesus. The novel ends with Joseph's death at the age of forty-four, five years before the beginning of his foster son's ministry.
Throughout the ages the lack of attention given to Joseph lies in the fact there is little information about him outside a few references to him in the Bible. There is, however, much we can know about him through simple deduction, and to know Joseph is to better know Jesus. Joseph was a carpenter. He taught Jesus that trade. And he was "a just man," the Bible says. Surely he taught Jesus about justice, mercy and honesty. So Jesus was, therefore, a product of his foster father's wisdom and talents. All this through deductive reasoning.
Conflict in Joseph's mind exists throughout the novel. It exists because Joseph feels that Jesus should be the one to tell him that He is the Messiah, without Joseph saying anything about it first. He doesn't want to "put the thought" into Jesus' mind. That one percent of doubt torments him, but he manages to continue on, all the while teaching Jesus about the Scriptures and life itself, all of which gives Jesus (in his human nature) the wisdom he will later draw upon for his wondrous parables. Turn to those New Testament parables and immediately see how Joseph's influence abides in them. And rejoice with Joseph when he finally hears the truth from his foster son's own lips that he is indeed the Messiah.
In short, I bring alive the twenty-five heretofore hidden years in the life of the Holy Family. The reader will find himself dining with them and their relatives. He will pray with them as they must have prayed, and he will witness many of the religious and political discussions, which surely they must have had. He will also witness the father and son conversations, which might have occurred, along with some of the humorous events, which must certainly have taken place over the years. Indeed, the reader will discover Joseph, and he will also discover a Jesus practically unknown to most readers of non-fiction."

David Laurence Nalick is a graduate of Cal State, Los Angeles with majors in Political Science, Economics, and English. While engaged in a teaching career in English and Religion, Nalick became fascinated with a biblical character about which very little is known- Joseph of Nazareth. Although heavily involved with writing novels ranging from science fiction to mystery, this author set aside those endeavors to write a novel that he considers his most important work. Said Nalick, "I hope to bring alive a character and a time period in the life of the Messiah about which precious little is known. It is time for the Christian world to meet its most neglected character. Know Joseph and you will better know this foster-father's son- The Lord of Lords".
