The Dom Project (LA Doms Book 1), by Heloise Belleau, Solace Ames

By day, Robin Lessing has a successful career as a university archivist. By night, she blogs about her less-than-successful search for Mr. Tall, Dark and Dominant. Living up to her handle "The Picky Submissive," she's on the verge of giving up and settling for vanilla with a side of fuzzy handcuffs when she discovers her best friend and colleague has a kinky side, too.

Sexy, tattooed techie John Sun is an experienced Dom who never lacks for playmates, male or female. If he can't satisfy Robin's cravings, maybe no one can—after all, he knows her better than anyone. So he offers to help her master the art of submission for one month.

Robin eagerly agrees to John's terms, even the pesky little rule forbidding any friendship-ruining sex. But rules are made to be broken, and once they begin their stimulating sessions, it's not long before she's ready to beg him for more—much more…

Intriguing concept
By Sarah Mel (Smut and Bonbons)
As the head of Saylor University's archival department, Robin Lessing is organized, detailed, and a complete Type A personality. She also is a submissive, although less success in this venture. As a way to vent frustrations as well as document her journey, she created a blog call The Picky Submissive. In the past, she has been lacking in serious relationships but not for sex.

John Sun is the laidback A/V guy on campus with his typical uniform of black t-shirts, boots, and his sleeve of tattoos. Even though he's known Robin since they were undergrads, he has been less fervent in his ambitions but that does not make him any less intelligent. Because he is able to leave his work at the door, he is able to live it up spending much of his time focusing as a Dominant with many playdates.

Although best friends, after Robin makes an offhanded comment, John begins to suspect there may be more to her than he knows. With just a little searching he not only finds her blog but that she is attending a bdsm themed event, so he decides to pay her a visit. At this point they both admit to each other the parts of their lives they previously didn't know. He decides to help her define her limits as well as her fetishes and interests but with no sex.

I think anyone who has either tried online dating or tiptoed into the lifestyle can relate to her issues of dealing with wannabe Dominants poaching the newbies. About halfway through, there is a scene which raised my eyebrows and made me a bit uncomfortable...the whole "your kink is not my kink" thing. As distressing as that particular section is, it is equally pivotal to the overall arc of the story. While the humiliation play is somewhat unsettling, there are other scenes more than scintillating to entice you to keep going. Several instances exist where Robin likes to run and John likes to place blame and anger; I wished some expansion for the reasons behind these behaviors. I believe it could not only broaden the knowledge of their history but put their relationship on a different level. Overall, it is an interesting foray to understand how this submissive finds her Wonderland.

Good!
By Cat's Romance Novel Themepark
There is a lot to like about this friends to lovers BDSM Romance.

John and Robin are really close friends. You can feel the history and closeness of that fact. Watching that change over to a lovers relationship and the risk that involves is a pleasure to read. John is a hot, tall, tattooed, relaxed, Asian American, and did I say hot? Robin is a archivist nerd, adventurous, and likable.

The setting of LA is great for me because I lived there and enjoy visiting exact places.

The BDSM part is well done, sexy and with a lighter more intellectual touch that makes it a bit more RAWR than it usually is for me. The first time they come together outside of a scene is awesome! It will make my list of greatest sex scenes.

I love Robin and John being far from cookie cutter characters. There are two major side plots that are engaging.

The romance has a HFN ending with a huge hint at a HEA. It is very enjoyable read.

Here is what I wish though...

I would have like John and Robin to clearly address in a more emotional way why he said no in the early days of their college relationship and why now--out loud. I wanted more emotionial intimacy between them. I want to see the time period between moving into a one and one relationship and the move in. There is real romance there. I would have like more sexy times within this blended time for them of their kinks and their love.

That being said, I will be reading more books by these authors and highly recommend this one.

fun and interesting read

Review from Jeannie Zelos Book reviews.
I liked the sound of this even though its shorter than I usually choose. Its a great read, and I so wish it was longer – the story-line had so many interesting plots it certainly could have been expanded IMO – but then, there's a huge market for shorter books, today people have so little free time they seem to suit many readers, just not me :(
Anyway – Robin, she's a sweetheart. I liked her go and get it attitude, loved the humour in her blog and felt like she was someone I’d be happy to befriend. John- well, six foot plus of sex is how he reads. I didn't really get to understand him personality wise, except that he was a very amiable, go with the flow, laid back kind of guy, and I think what developed between him and Robin was as much a surprise to him as it was to her.
I loved the plots here – the transition from friends to teacher and pupil to...the work issues Robin is having, then there's the whole Dpm/sub/pleasure from pain angle. Its not something I really understand but feel there's so often a huge psychological aspect behind the need for pain. At least in the characters from the novels I read – real life – I’ve no idea? Then there's Robin's blog – that's so apt with people blogging ect. ( I do! But never anonymously) about all sorts of things, and living their life out in social networks. Inevitably jealousies creep in, and under cover of anonymity there can be some really despicable bullying going on – its another example of how the Law needs to catch up with technology. All things to think about alongside the developing relationship between Robin and John, and when they are together – well, some hot scenes..I felt there was enough drama and sadness for me too – I need that to balance the happy parts.
So a book that for me had so much to offer, and was well written and a treat to read. I did wish it was longer of course :) but at 1.93 for 157 pages is very reasonably priced.
Stars: four and a half.
