Beautiful

This book had me crying and wishing for an Adam Slade of my own! After all, who wouldn't want a man with a heart of gold, and a body tough enough to soak up all of life's sorrows for you? Angel's Fall was completely endearing, and I'd recommend it to everyone, even the toughest of critics.

Whine, whine, whine...

This is essentially the tale of two perfect looking people wanting to tear each other's clothes off. Oh, wait. The guy is the cliched "tortured hero" with a tragic past that he ruminates on endlessly, relentlessly and repeatedly until you start skimming pages to avoid listening to the whole damn thing over and over again. And the heroine is a minister's daughter, an innocent do-gooder attempting to help prostitutes start new lives. It goes without saying she's stunning and has absolutely no idea how perfectly beautiful she is even though I'm pretty sure mirrors were in existence in the 18th century. She suffers from a guilt complex about bloody everything that's ever happened in her entire life, which means she's also mentally rabbiting on and on about how she's failed everyone and couldn't possibly interest the hero. Who thinks he's too "bad" for someone so pure. Of course, they get it on (in a garden shed, if you can dig that) and then they're both even more guilt-ridden and self-loathing than they were before the deed. Which means pages and pages of more tortured musings. By the time it was over, all I felt was blessed relief that I didn't have to listen to any more whining. The writing itself was capable, but there was absolutely no sense that you were immersed in 18th century England. The anguished melodrama and accompanying corny dialogue was cringe-worthy. I failed to mention the evil villain, who attempts to scar the heroine's face with a dagger so that no man will ever find her beautiful again (and with a crazy guy waving a knife in her face, she's suddenly aware of just how hot she is and starts mentally whining about how the hero won't want her any more if she's disfigured. And you know that that would be what any woman would be most worried about, right?). I knew from his first line early in the book that he was the one who had it in for her, so no suspense there. Frankly, he should have packed it in at about chapter 5 and left these two impossibly gorgeous creatures have at it because there was really nothing remotely interesting about them. When will someone write about average looking people with three-dimensional personalities? Now there's an idea!

read more of her books. Enjoyable - 5 plus stars.
