The best book on Physiology - by far!

As a Physics PhD, with a great interest in human physiology, I have read, or attempted to read a great number of books, from all the main authors on the subject. While there are many excellent books to consider, none, in my opinion come close to this book. Clear but without being simplistic, always to the point and with a great writing style, it never gets boring or convoluted, delivering the maximal amount of information per page. The great illustrations help cement the knowledge, but it is the writing that is engaging. I will go as far as saying that this book reads almost like a best selling novel, making it hard to put down as one moves from one concept to the next. One suggestion to make this the perfect book is to include a chapter on the immune system in the next edition. Thanks to the authors for writing such a great book on such a fascinating subject.

The Best Review of Physiology for the USMLE Step 1!

Forget about BRS Physiology with boring dry style, short on clinical correlations, lacking in the major important areas (like acid-base physiology), and with the shameful number of illustrations. LIR Physiology is the new standard for studying physiology and reviewing it for the USMLE step 1. Everything important is here, presented succinctly, explained elegantly, and illustrated with the hundreds of beautiful illustrations. And what's most important for the USMLE Step 1 - there are numerous clinical correlations with detailed yet concise discussions which undoubtedly will help you to ace the boards. Multiple choice questions at the end of each chapter are also much better in LIR Physiology - unlike those in BRS Physiology they are mostly case-based and USMLE-ish.

About the Author

Michael Kun is the author of the novels You Poor Monster, The Locklear Letters, and A Thousand Benjamins, among other works of fiction and non-fiction. He is a graduate of the Johns Hopkins University and the University of Virginia School of Law. He practices law in Los Angeles, California, where he lives with his wife Amy and their daughter Paige.

We Are Still Tornadoes is Susan Mullen’s first novel. She is a graduate of Duke University, where she studied English literature, and the University of Virginia School of Law. She practices law and lives in Northern Virginia. Sue has been married to her law school classmate Kevin Mullen since 1990, and they have two daughters, Hannah and Haley.

Great story about two best friends!

Charming novel that explores the ups and downs of two best friends on the verge of adulthood. This epistolary novel is funny, heartwarming, sad and hopeful. Loved the early 80s soundtrack that runs through the narrative. It all adds up to a highly enjoyable read.

Such a sweet, funny book about two friends who grow up together and struggle through their first year post-high school while writing to each other and supporting one another. It is one of those books that is almost impossible to put down ("just one more letter...!), and that you don't want to end. I highly recommend this book.

Helen delivers again!

Possession is the third book in the Steel Brothers Saga by Helen Hardt. You should read Craving first and then Obsession to enjoy the drama and romance!

The story of Jade and Talon continues in full force and more secrets are revealed. Talon is trying hard to overcome the terrors of his past, but isn’t sure he can share the events that have shaped him into the man he is today with Jade. What will Jade say/do when she finds out? This is Talon’s biggest question AND fear.

Jade is experiencing some obstacles in her personal and professional life as well. Are they connected somehow or is it all just coincidence?!?! Their lives seem to be more and more intertwined.

Even with life being thrown at them from all directions, the chemistry and devotion they have for one another is undeniable. Their romantic encounters are so hot and sexy!

There are still questions that need to be answered and more to be discovered with Jade, Talon and the rest of the Steel Family. I’m sure the ups and downs for this family are far from over. I can only imagine what intense, nailing biting, juicy things Helen has in store for us with Melt. If you like a hot, steamy romance with mystery and a suspenseful “who done it” that keeps you wanting more, this is the series for you! Helen does not disappoint!

Highly recommended - mature subject

This review is for the first three books in this series: Craving, Obsession, and Possession. I read them all at once, so I decided to review them as a group. I received a free copy of Craving from the publisher and bought the rest of the books released at this time. It was that good!

The plotline is top notch. It is gripping, intriguing, full of mystery and plenty of suspense as the series continues. We are dealing here with a very adult subject matter, so for those of you that are squeamish or looking for "safe" books, this is not for you in my opinion.

Talon Steele is the center of this story. His past is uncovered as the story unfolds and you will not be able to keep a dry eye. The plotline pursues the resolution and ultimate healing from that event in his past. To do this, Talon is going to need the support of his family and the girl he has finally allowed himself to love.

Highly recommended for those of you who love stories with twists and turns, as well as a strong dose of psychological influence.

One note: I could not give this a 5 star rating because somehow the love scenes just did not all do it for me. I found myself (I hate to admit it) skipping them so I could find out what happened next in this story. It could be just me... am I getting old?

Possession is the final book of the three Talon & Jade love story & a hit!

This book ties up many of the questions in the first two of this series. Talon Steele is a complicated man because he went through an ordeal of violent abuse when he was ten years old and in the book is currently thirty five. He meets Jade who is the best friend of his younger sister, Marjorie who came to stay for a while . While at the ranch the meet,& fall in love.
I enjoyed the read & would highly recommend it to anyone e wishing to read a complicated love story.

A nostalgic trip to the 80s.

This captures the tone of the original way of the tiger books and I was effortless drawn into them.

For old school veterans who owned and played the original 6 books, you will be in for a treat, as Book 7 effortlessly weaves in tons of past plot points from various books. Really love how Book 7 takes into account the various permutations of decisions made in the past 6 books evoking endless nostalgia for those of us who grew up with the books and read them over and over. In some ways this is probably the most complicated of all the way of the tiger series, given the need to juggle past plot points as well as various characters you will run into while trying to escape the rift.

A possible criticism could be that the book overdos the nostalgia factor at points, and almost every major enemy you have ever encountered in the past 6 as a chance of making an appearance. Also the story perhaps runs out of steam towards the end, treading almost identical ground to Book 3.

In terms of play-ability, if you have not played past books, as far as I can tell there is only one way to get past the initial trap (and in a way that makes no sense to me, since doing it in another order fails), but I would guess no one would get book 7 without having played the earlier ones.

But in general this is an excellent book, easily worthy of the "Way of the Tiger" series.

Hope this isn't the end of the series, as a interesting character was introduced at the end, that suggests possibilities....

Stunning conclusion after a long wait

This massive offering (420 sections vs the 300 the previous books have) ties in a lot of loose ends. There are a lot of old acquaintances that show up in one way or another and try to settle things with the Avenger. It takes a lot of luck as well as skill to face your past.

The adventure drops you in the middle of the action and the sense of urgency fueled by adrenaline does not give you a respite until well into 2/3 into the story.

Insightful and a Game-Changer

Every now and then, a book comes along which delivers a simple yet important message in an oh-so-effective manner. This is one of those books. A must read for every hard-working woman out there. As a female and a professional, stress has been a constant in my life. In fact, its absence would come as more of a surprise than its presence -- despite various haphazard measures I've taken to counter stress. This books turns the subject on its head by giving women the tools they need to identify the type of stress in their lives -- aka your stress profile -- and by presenting them with affirmative steps to take to manage that stress. Almost all women like a game-plan. We like to be in charge of our lives. Finally, this book gives us a guide to doing so.

OMG how timely is this?

This book is a real life saver. I haven't finished it yet, but what I have read is a much needed reference to my crazy life. Although I recoginize as an individual person, recommendations in a book are of a general nature, I have choosen from the general recommendations for my type that most suit me and already feel more controlled and vital although the pressures and chaos of my life have not changed. I am excited to see what 6 months or a years time of these small changes will yield. Thank you Dr. McClellan and Dr. Hamilton from the bottom of my heart.

This book is a must have for all women. Dr. McClellan and Dr. Hamilton have taken science, their extensive experience in private practice and research and have woven an incredible masterpiece focusing on nutrition, exercise, identifying the four stress types and a simple yet effective way to combat stress that bombards us in our role as mother, daughter, wife, career woman. This book speaks to all women. Read it and learn how to develop a stres free state.

She held the role of President of the Shakespeare Society of Japan, and is on the board of trustees of the International Shakespeare Association.
